Changes to decisionmaker laws to commence soon (QLD)

You might recall that last year I wrote a post on new changes to laws for attorneys and administrators following the passing of the Guardianship and Administration and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2019.

With the craziness that we now call COVID-19, the implementation of these changes that was scheduled for 30 March 2020 was postponed with the date to be advised.

It has since been released that the changes will now come into effect on 30 November 2020.

Practically speaking, these changes include an update to the guidelines for asessing capacity and the introduction of new forms used for Enduring Powers of Attorney and Advance Health Directives along with explanatory guides.

For anyone involved in preparing or reviewing these documents, please make yourself aware of the existence of these new documents coming into circulation soon. The ones we currently use have been around for more than 15 years, so this will take some getting used to!
