Today is the first day of my last week in legal practice. And, I’ve got to say, so far, it’s a roller coaster of emotions!
Soon, I will be swapping my practice poncho for a research robe after being offered a scholarship to do my Doctorate with the Queensland University of Technology’s Australian Centre for Health Law Research.
This is a very bitter sweet moment, as I had intended to do my PhD part time and was very surprisingly offered this opportunity. With some recent health challenges making practice a lot harder of late, this was not just an opportunity to devote myself to my research and love of writing, but also to looking after myself and my family.
This was the hardest decision I have ever made, mostly because my amazing colleagues at Wilson Lawyers are seriously amazing people and the best group of lawyers I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. Thank you for being so supportive of me both before and now.
Thank you so much to all of my amazing business referral partners who have honoured me with so much support over the years. I look forward to staying connected with you all and continuing to support you and your business by connecting you with amazing lawyers.
Some have asked me if I will still be blogging. Umm, have you met me?! Of course, I absolutely will. You couldn’t rip it from my cold, dead fingers, if you tried! Plus, I will also be doing some extra little writing projects. Watch this space, as I will share more about that in due course.
I will still also be just as involved in the profession as I always have been. I love the law and I love the legal profession. I will always be around.
I am not sure what I will do afterwards, and that’s OK. I know I will stay in the law, or perhaps the law will stay in ME!. For now, I will focus on my health, my family and contributing [hopefully] meaningful and original research to the law that I love.
Thank you, for all the support I have received from so many as I embark on this new adventure.
